Excalibur (1981)
Mordred's Gold Helmet (prototype version)

Excalibur is a 1981 fantasy film directed, produced and co-written by John Boorman that retells the legend of King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table. It stars Nigel Terry as Arthur, Nicholas Clay as Lancelot, Helen Mirren as Morgana, Liam Neeson as Gawain, Nicol Williamson as Merlin and a relatively unknown Patrick Stewart as Leondegrance.

The armor was created by Terry English, and his design for Morderd's armour became the lasting image of the film. Today, whenever the film is mentioned, people seem to remember this particular armour more than anything else. There were only three helmets made for Mordred. The screen-used version was featured in at least two of the film's posters, below.

Excalibur remains one of my favourite films. I saw it at 13 and it caused a lasting impression and lifelong fascination with Arthurian legends and Wagner's music.
