Errol Flynn's personal cufflinks and cigarette case

These are Errol Flynn's personal gold cufflinks monogrammed "EF" and alligator-pattern cigarette case with initials "EF" initials in gold.finish metal. They are accompanied by extensive paperwork detailing their provenance.

"Errol Flynn (1909-1959) was an Australian-born film star who gained fame in Hollywood in the 1930s as the screen's premier swashbuckler. Tall, athletic and exceptionally handsome, Flynn personified the cavalier adventurer in a string of immensely popular films for Warner Brothers, most often co-starring with Olivia deHavilland in such screen classics as "Captain Blood" and "The Adventures of Robin Hood."

Flynn was born in Hobart, Tasmania, the son of professor Theodore Thomson Flynn, a world renowned Marine biologist, and Lily Mary Young. After an unhappy childhood that included physical and mental abuse by his mother, Flynn ran away to New Guinea where for several years he lived a life of adventure as a copra plantation overseer, constable, gold miner and guide up the dangerous Sepik River. In 1933, back in Australia, he was cast in a low-budget film, "In the Wake of the Bounty," which gave him the idea of becoming an actor. He drifted to England where he landed work as a bit player with the Northampton Repertory Theater and, after appearing in one film, "Murder at Monte Carlo," was discovered by a Warner Brothers talent scout.

Coming to America in 1934, Flynn was cast in two insignificant films before Warner Brothers took a chance on an unknown and starred him in "Captain Blood." Flynn shot to international stardom overnight, and throughout the 1930s he was arguably the most recognizable movie star in the world. His striking good looks and screen charisma won him millions of fans, including legions of women who threw themselves at him.

Flynn also became as famous for his hedonistic lifestyle as for his swashbuckling movie roles. By his own estimate he slept with 10,000 women in his lifetime, and his penchant for alcohol, drugs and brawling aged him prematurely. By 1950 his best days were behind him both professionally and personally. Dropped by Warner Brothers in 1952, Flynn roamed the world in his yacht making substandard films abroad, as well as one short-lived television show, "The Errol Flynn Theater." Near the end of his life he returned to Hollywood where he was rediscovered; playing drunks and washed out bums, he brought a poignancy to his performances that had not been there during his glamorous heyday."

Peter Cushing's smoking glove

Peter Cushing as "Grand Moff Tarkin" on the set of Star Wars.

Peter Cushing was famous for wearing a white glove in his left hand when smoking, in order to protect his fingers from nicotine stains. He always wore the glove and there are some photos. He famously wore it on the set of Star Wars IV: A New Hope and on the set of Dracula A.D. 1972 and Arabian Adventure. I'm sure he wore it in many more, photos to come as I find them. [PSoL]

Peter Cushing's Pipes

This is a set of six pipes, a "Sherlock Holmes" calling card and syringe that belonged to screen legend Peter Cushing. I haven't yet screen-matched the pipes, but hope to be able to find them. Cushing was not a pipe smoker, but often smoked pipes in his screen and stage roles. These pipes could also have been used in his stage performances, and the lack of photo references makes screen-matching very difficult. I would be grateful for any help.

The "Sherlock Holmes" business card is not a prop, but part of a set made by Peter Cushing himself.

These pipes were auctioned in the Peter Cushing 1994 Phillips estate auction, and belonged to make up/special effects artist Dave Elsey, whose work includes Farscape, Little Shop of Horrors, Hellraiser, Mission Impossible and Star Wars III - Revenge of the Sith, amongst many others. You can find a great interview with him about Cushing here. [PSoL]

Peter Cushing jacket and handkerchief

The jacket worn by the renowned actor Peter Cushing on the cover of his autobiography titled “An Autobiography and Past Forgetting”. The grey textured jacket was custom made for the actor and includes the blue silk handkerchief in the breast pocket. It is worth noting that the colour of the handkerchief was changed digitally after the photo was taken.[PSoL]

Audrey Hepburn (1929-1993)
Personal gloves and evening bag

An evening bag and white satin gloves belonging to Audrey Hepburn. This dainty envelope style white satin evening purse which is encrusted with seed pearls and lined in white satin belonged to the screen legend. As did this pair of elegant white satin elbow-length evening gloves with two satin buttons at the wrists, which are the hallmark of Audrey’s elegance in such films as Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The purse and gloves were given by Audrey to a friend to wear to a prestigious reception given by the Italian President at The Quirinale Palace while they were filming in Rome in 1960. Also included is a small black and white  photograph of a 2 day old Sean Ferrer sent to the same friend, with Audrey’s own handwriting on the back in the famous green ink she used for her personal writing, and a Swiss newspaper clipping showing Audrey, her husband Mel and baby Sean. Includes a letter of authenticity from the family friend. [PSoL]
